If a country, region, or government announces a time-related change, such as a change to a time zone or Daylight Saving Time:

Jan 14, 2019 There is a daylight saving time display 'bug' that affects both Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac. It's not really a bug, but a limitation of the capabilities of the time scale and only affect people who start the week on Sunday. Outlook keeps track of time zones and daylight saving time so that events automatically appear at the correct time on your calendar. For example, imagine that your workplace is in Los Angeles and your colleague's workplace is in New York, which is three hours ahead of Los Angeles.

  • Apple sends a time zone update to your device.
  • Your device displays an alert that updated time zone information is available.

To accept the new time zone definitions from Apple, choose Restart in the alert. Otherwise, your device gets the update the next time you restart it.

How to check for time zone updates

If you didn't get the time zone alert, you can still check for time zone updates manually.

On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch

These steps require iOS 10 or later and watchOS 3 or later. If that excludes your device, you can set the time zone manually.

  1. Make sure that your device is connected to the Internet.
  2. On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
    To check for time zone updates for your Apple Watch, do this on the iPhone that is paired with your Apple Watch.
  3. If you see an alert saying that updated time zone information is available, restart your device to get the update. When you see the message on your Apple Watch, restart it as well.
  4. If you don't see the alert on your iOS device, return to the previous settings screen, wait a few minutes, then tap Date & Time again. If you see a time zone update message near the bottom of Date & Time settings, restart your device to get the update. Wait a few minutes, then restart your Apple Watch.

On your Apple TV

These steps require tvOS 10 or later on Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. If that excludes your Apple TV, you can set the time zone manually.

  1. Make sure that your Apple TV is connected to the Internet.
  2. Go to Settings > General > Time Zone. If you see a message saying that updated time zone information is available, restart your Apple TV to get the update.
  3. If you don't see the message, press and hold the Menu button on your Apple TV remote to go to the Home screen. Wait several minutes, then return to Settings > General > Time Zone. If you see the message now, restart your Apple TV to get the update.

On your Mac

These steps require macOS High Sierra. If that excludes your Mac, you can set the time zone manually.

  1. Make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
  2. Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click Date & Time.
  3. If you see an alert saying that updated time zone information is available, restart your Mac.
  4. If you don't see the alert, quit System Preferences, wait several minutes, then open Date & Time preferences again. If you see a time zone update message near the bottom of Date & Time preferences, restart your Mac to get the update.

How to set the time zone manually

Outlook
  • iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Go to Settings > General > Date & Time. Make sure that Set Automatically is turned off, then choose a time zone.
  • Apple Watch: Set the time zone on the iPhone that is paired with your Apple Watch.
  • Apple TV: Go to Settings > General > Time Zone. Make sure that Set Automatically is turned off, then choose a time zone.
  • Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Date & Time. In the Time Zone pane, make sure that ”Set time zone automatically using current location” is deselected, then choose a time zone. You might need to click to unlock these settings before you can make changes.


The option to turn on automatic date and time updates might not be available with all wireless carriers or in all countries or regions.

Check your settings

See if you still need help after each step:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  2. Turn on Set Automatically1 in Settings > General > Date & Time. This automatically sets your date and time based on your time zone. If there’s an available time zone update, your device lets you know.
  3. Allow your device to use its current location to determine the correct time zone. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and select Setting Time Zone.
  4. Check that your device shows the correct time zone in Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.

If you still need help

Savings

If your device still shows an incorrect date, time or time zone,2 change each setting instead of using Set Automatically. For example, you might have iOS 9 or earlier, and your country or region, or government changes the time zone or the observance of daylight saving time. If so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
  2. Turn off Set Automatically.
  3. Now you can change the time zone or the date and time:3
    • Tap Time Zone and enter a city with the time zone that you need. (Not sure which city to enter? Use the time zone map on timeanddate.com to find a city with a time zone that matches your needs.)
    • Or tap the date to change the date and time.

  1. The option to turn on Set Automatically might not be available with all operators or in all countries and regions. If the device has a Screen Time passcode, then the option to turn on Set Automatically will be dimmed or greyed out.
  2. If the time on your device is wrong after you sync it with your computer, your computer's time might be wrong. Check the time on your computer in System Preferences > Date & Time. You might want to select 'Set date and time automatically'.
  3. Manual adjustments to time settings to change app behaviour (like game timers) isn't recommended.
